Happy Tuesday, friends! Winter is officially (well, not officially) upon us in Chicago with lots of snow yesterday and temps in the teens today. I think I can safely say my days of outdoor runs on the lake are behind me until, oh, June.
I was listening to The Lady Gang a few weeks ago and heard about a new exercise app called Obé Fitness that has lots of live and on demand workout classes you can watch from your computer or phone. In other words – I don’t have to leave the house!
Obé Fitness: What it is, Exactly …
Obé is a subscription-based workout app. You pay $27 / month (you can get 30% off your first month using the code OBE30) for unlimited access to live and on-demand workout videos.
The videos are sorted into categories of Sweat, Define, and Flow, plus they have special videos for pre-and-post-natal workouts as well as express workouts that are around 10 minutes long. Within each category they have more filtering options to see class types like dance choreo (my personal fav), hiit, pilates, sculpt, vinyasa yoga, restorative yoga, and more.
The actual format is one or two instructors in this pretty glowing box background. They teach the class using minimal equipment, if any, and if you’re watching on demand you can pause, rewind, or fast forward as you wish. The live classes are 28 minutes and take place from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. on weekends. One of my favorite live class features is adding the workout you want to take to your Google, iCal, or Outlook calendar so you remember!
Obé Fitness: My Favorite Classes
Well, obviously, this is personal preference, but as I mentioned, I’m partial to the dance choreography classes featuring the Rickey Sisters. I’ve also done some yoga classes – specifically the flow and restorative, and I haven’t gotten into the strength classes yet, but one of the Obé team members recommended I try classes by Walter or Kathryn.
Obé Fitness: How I Make it Work
I’ve always shied away from workout videos at home because I’ve been concerned about space and if I would actually make the time. So far, this has been pretty simple. When I’m ready, I move my desk chair off to the side and use the area rug as my base. I have a yoga mat, bolsters, blocks, light hand weights, and a couple of resistance bands. But you can always filter workouts that don’t require any equipment at all.
I’ve done a couple of morning yoga classes on the weekends, but for the most part have been doing these over my lunch break (when I used to run) or directly after work, before I’ve really gotten up from my work space. One of my favorite parts is if I’m doing this during a meal time, I can have food cooking in the oven while I’m working out. Pausing to preheat the oven or check on progress also serves as a short water break.
Next week, I’ll be in Nashville for four days for work, so I’m excited to test this out hotel room style!
Obé Fitness: How to Subscribe
If you download the app on your phone, you can pay directly through your iTunes account. However, when I started doing it this way, I couldn’t figure out how to enter a promo code at all. Instead, I’d recommend signing up through an internet browser first. All users get a free week trial – that’s how I started, but you can also use code OBE30 for 30% off your first month! Woo!
Do you have any questions about Obé Fitness? Which of their classes would you like to try?
Note: this post wasn’t sponsored, but if you decide to use the 30% off code, not only will you get a discount, but I’ll also get a tiny fee as well. Read about my affiliate link policies here. This is an honest review of a service I’m currently loving!

Hi! Thanks for sharing your experience with obe. I was wondering if you are still using it and if you still like it? I was also wondering if you use your phone or a computer when you are doing the classes? It looks like you can also access it through a Roku or Fire stick, I was curious if you have done that so you can use it on your tv? I am thinking of downloading it. Just trying to do a lot of research before I take the plunge because I’m not totally sure I want to spend the $27 per month. Have a great day!

Hi! Great questions! First, yes! I am still using it and still love it! It makes it so much easier to get a workout in for two reasons – 1. Accessibility: it’s always available and from anywhere! 2. It’s fun – I especially love the dance choreo classes which don’t really feel like working out. I typically use my computer just because my office area at home has the most room to move. I keep weights by my desk for easy access and push my desk chair back and throw a mat down if I’m doing yoga or something that requires me to get on the floor. I would think you could chromecast or something to a tv, but I’ve never done that! The computer screen is plenty big for me! Let me know if you have any other questions!!
