If you’re anything like me, now is the time when the goals you were so diligent about a month ago start to slip. Even with checking in on mine at the start of each month doesn’t totally avoid fatigue. If you read my post on my 2019 bucket list, you know my big goal is to run 500 miles this year. I’m already a bit behind, but know I can catch up – especially as my stamina builds back up.
I do realize, though, that I get bored easily with working out and need to mix it up so I’m not just running all the time. I especially need to work in some more restful stretching and yoga classes as well as some strength training.
I have a gym membership, but to be completely honest, I haven’t been blown away by my gym’s classes. Instead, I keep a low-credit Class Pass membership as well to keep up with some of my favorites.
Here are my best workouts in Chicago …
Best Workouts In Chicago: Fly Wheel
Fly Wheel in Old Town is probably my favorite place for a good workout in the city. Their barre classes are great, but I really love a good, old-fashioned stadium cycle. Nothing makes me feel more like a power woman than this fast-paced spin and I feel like it’s the most bang for my workout buck (and time).
Best Workouts In Chicago: Exhale
On the other hand, when I’m looking for something relaxing or more strength based, Exhale in Gold Coast is my pick. The studio is this perfect mix of beautiful and relaxing. Even their waiting area for when I’m early to a class is total zen. My favorites here are flow yoga and barre. They’re a bit more challenging, but totally worth it!
Best Workouts In Chicago: Studio Three Yoga Classes
I also love Studio Three in River North for a nice relaxing yoga class. They do a deep stretch class I like and a candlelight flow class that’s divine. I’ve tried one of their torch classes and while it was a little much for my taste, it was definitely a good sweat!
Best Workouts In Chicago: Studio Lagree Megaformer Classes
I know your first question is what the heck is a Megaformer. Check this out for more info. But it’s basically a “Pilates machine” that uses your body weight for strength training. You use micro movements to build muscle and let me tell you, you. can. feel. it. It’s awkward your first class or two, but the benefits outweigh the embarrassment!
What are your favorite workout classes – in Chicago or elsewhere? And what are you doing to stay on top of your goals this year?
