Happy Thursday, friends! I’m actually writing this on my lunch break today because cold nights this week have had me far more interested in hunkering down in bed with a book than typing up a blog post at my desk. And that’s okay too. I’m reading Eat, Pray, Love, which I somehow missed – or maybe just wasn’t ready for – when it came out. But right now, it’s speaking to me and I love it! Will add it to the book reviews page when I’m done.
In the meantime, here are 5 things I love this week. What’s not included? October snow in Chicago. Yep, big ol’ flakes coming down that, thankfully, aren’t sticking yet!
In The Moment: Things I Love on October 31, 2019
1. Cashmere Poncho | 2. Mercury In Retrograde Shirt | 3. Dancing! | 4. Snakeskin Bootie Dupes | 5. Stock Flowers
Cashmere Poncho
One of my favorite neighborhood boutiques is closing down, so my mom and I stopped in to pick through their final sale stuff. I found a poncho very similar to this (but not as nice) for a steal and It’s one of my go-to wardrobe items at the moment. I love how simple the lines are and it hangs so well. Plus, this one is 100% cashmere and comes in great colors!
Mercury In Retrograde Shirt
Mercury goes into retrograde today, so basically, my life is over for the next three weeks. Kidding, mostly, but I did start to notice last July when it was in retrograde how chaotic and dysfunctional my life became. Here’s a bit about what MIR is and if you don’t believe it, that’s fine too – I’m not 100% convinced either, but it’s interesting when you experience a noticeable shift. I figured I’d commemorate the occasion with this cute shirt from Etsy (h/t mom).
Dancing!
Fun fact that most people don’t know about me: I love to dance! And I’m not talking Saturday night club dancing (that’s fun too), but actual choreographed hip hop to an 8-count. And since it’s pretty hard to find classes like that, I don’t do it often enough. The new fitness app I’m using has them and my friend and I went last night to a drop-in class at Hubbard Street Dance Center. We took the beginner class (which is their second level after basic) and found it challenging, but not impossible! We’ll definitely be going back and if you’re in Chicago, you should definitely join us!
Snakeskin Bootie Dupes
During the Nordstrom sale, everyone and their mother fell in love with a gorgeous pair of snakeskin booties from Vince Camuto. Unfortunately, they sold out in the sale in minutes and I wasn’t able to grab them! Last week, my coworker came to work in these and I honestly thought they were the VC pair. Turns out, they’re a far far less expensive version from DSW with a price tag of about $37 (use code BOOTSNBATS for 25% off). Even though they are clearly not as nice in person, I wore mine for the first time on Tuesday and got compliments from strangers which is always a good sign!
Stock Flowers
Look out peonies and ranunculus, I have a new favorite flower. It’s called stock (I had never heard of it before, but maybe that’s just me) and it came as one of the pods for my AeroGarden. Why I love them: they sprout up in different colors so you get some variety and they last forever when cut. I seriously have one in my bathroom that I cut over two weeks ago! I’ve been posting about them so incessantly that the sweet folks at AeroGarden sent me replacement pods for my current plant.
