If you follow along with me on Instagram, you know that the past couple of weeks have been a bit chaotic! My mom came to visit for a week and the rest of the family joined last weekend to throw my cousin a Harry Potter baby shower. From there, I had a few days to turn my life around (and focus on lots and lots of work) to get ready to spend the weekend in NYC with my Atlanta friends!
I had so many questions about the Harry Potter baby shower décor I was posting on Instagram. I will note, the whole theme was British too as the daddy-to-be is from England. Imagine a lot of Union Jacks and golden snitches together!
Harry Potter Baby Shower: The Décor and Sources
There are tons of cute, punny onesies on Etsy that are Harry Potter related, but I grabbed a few from this maker and had them hanging between Union Jack pennants above the fireplace. We also did a diaper cake with this cute owl stuffed animal and a custom topper from my awesome friend Ali with the glasses, pacifier, and lightning bolt! Too cute!
All over the house we scattered Ferrero Rocher golden snitches with wings from this free printable template and had this Jelly Belly game with “every flavor beans.”
The thing I got the most questions about was our hanging candles throughout the house. This was a long process, but so fun and looked great – especially as it got dark. I can’t seem to find our exact tutorial, but essentially, we purchased these LED tea lights that come in a bulk pack and last for a few days. We took a piece of white paper and super glued it around the top of the tea light to make it a pillar candle. Then we hot glued a piece of fishing line to the top of the candle and used 3M strips to hang them each to the ceiling. Like I said, installation was tedious, but pretty easy and really made the Harry Potter baby shower theme come to life.
We didn’t do much in the way of games, but one of my cousin’s friend made up an awesome game of matching the Harry Potter characters to their parents by first name. Hilariously enough, the mama-to-be and Harry Potter fanatic won the game!
Harry Potter Baby Shower: The Menu
I’m not much of one in the kitchen, but my aunt made cottage pie using an old family restaurant and we had a pumpkin spice cake and apple pies. Everything came together so nicely!
Okay, moving on from Harry Potter baby shower fever … Since we haven’t caught up in a hot minute, just giving you the highlights of my last couple of weeks away from the blog …
Five Awesome Things I’ve Done Over The Past Two Weeks
1: Tried Joe’s Imports
I’ve been dying to eat here for months and it might snag my favorite Chicago restaurant spot! Best octopus in town and the best dessert I’ve ever had. Ever. Cacio e pepe cheesecake – a parmesan cheesecake with cracked pepper and honey drizzle. Yum!!
2. Took my mom to a Gator watch party
Our Chicago Gator watch parties are at a dive bar in Lincoln Park and tend to get a little rowdy, so of course, I took my mom there to check it out! We didn’t stay long, but it was nice for her to meet some of my newer friends and see the craziness in person.
3. Saw Billy Joel in concert
I’ve always loved Billy Joel, but I could not have anticipated how amazing he would be in person. He has a run at Madison Square Garden and plays it once a month, so if you happen to overlap on your next trip, I highly recommend it!
4. Put a few new holes in my ears
I’ve been wanting to get a few new ear piercings for a while now – second holes in my lobes and my helix. I found a pop-up in New York and while I almost fainted because the piercer effed my cartilage up, all’s well that ends well and they look fab!
5. Saw Mean Girls on Broadway
Y’all. Run, don’t walk. This is one of the best, funniest musicals I’ve seen in a while. Not just for nostalgia, but truly good! Plus, we got our tickets at a discount day of from the TKTS booth, and it sounds like it’s available there regularly!
Alright, now that we’re caught up on life and the Harry Potter baby shower, we can go back to our regular programming tomorrow! What have you been up to over the past few weeks?

We go on a school trip to NYC every year and see a few shoes. This year we’re seeing Mean Girls and I’m really excited!
