Last week, I wrote about my annual commitment to not lose track of my goals in the last few months of the year – saying that things will change on January 1. One of the ideas I had was to make a fall bucket list with seasonal activities that I often don’t make time for. I’ve broken things down by month since October activities are so different from December ones. Here’s what I’ve got on my plan …
Fall Bucket List: October
Try a turmeric latte
I’m a big fan of turmeric and it’s benefits and keep hearing rave reviews of turmeric lattes. I’ve been wanting to get a milk frother like this one, so this is a perfect excuse to test it out!
Switch the closet to cool-weather clothes
Okay, technically, this is done – I did it last week. But if you haven’t, I highly recommend it. One of my new habits is to clean out my closet regularly so the literal messy closet doesn’t become symbolic of my headspace. 😉 PS. Here’s my favorite fall outfit these days – I’m working on a post about how to style a leather jacket, so stay tuned!
Start the fireplace
Ah! This one is done too! I actually kicked off the first fire of the season with my mom and cousin yesterday after brunch. It’s just getting chilly enough here in Chicago and it’s so nice to have it running when we’re just bumming around the house.
Make apple cider donuts
I always always find time to grab a caramel apple spice from Starbucks as a fall treat, but I have never tried and apple cider donut and since I’ve been cooking / baking more, I thought it would be a fun challenge on the fall bucket list to make them at home!
Fall Bucket List: November
Make a seasonal craft
I love a good craft project, but sometimes I get in a rut of doing the same old thing – often for function – like making a candle – than for the challenge and enjoyment. This year, I pledge to find a seasonal craft to do.
Have company over
I’m never much of one for having people over to my house but every once in a while I really enjoy it. And I realized the other day, I’ve never really had friends over to my Chicago apartment. So, that’s on the list!
Run a 5K
I’ve been so much more consistent with exercising lately and I want to get back to my standard 3-mile lunch or evening run. I’m not looking to run a formal, organized 5K, but I just want to be able to do one on my own again.
Make a pot of chili
Ah, Chili. One of fall’s finest treats. For my fall bucket list in November, I’ll pull out the crock pot and whip up this recipe (my favorite) and freeze some leftovers for when I’m traveling around the holidays and don’t have time to cook!
Fall Bucket List: December
Watch A Christmas Story
Who doesn’t love a good Christmas movie? A Christmas Story one is probably one of my favorites (I CAN’T PUT MY ARMS DOWN), but I don’t think I’ve watched it in a few years! I always seem to grab Elf, Home Alone 2, or The Holiday, so this year, I will make sure to add it to the lineup!
Bake Christmas cookies
If you happen to be looking for the best holiday cookie recipe ever, here it is. I usually wind up making a few batches of these, but adding it to my fall bucket list so I don’t forget or put it off.
Walk home down Michigan Avenue one night
In my mind, there is no greater month in Chicago than December. October is a close second, but in December, it’s chilly but not obnoxious yet and all the lights are up on Michigan. Since my home and office are only two miles apart, I’ll make sure to enjoy a crisp walk home one evening to take in the holiday spirit.
Put together a puzzle
I love putting together a puzzle – especially with the fireplace going and a glass of wine. To me, it’s just so cozy. Yet it’s something I almost never actually do. Will make time for it one night when I don’t feel like leaving the house!
So there’s my fall bucket list. What’s on yours? And what do you want to pull from mine?
