A few months ago, I finally got caught up on my favorite podcast – The Lady Gang. In desperate need of something new, I reached out to friends, coworkers, and all of my friends on Instagram for suggestions. I will say, I haven’t made quite the dent in the list as I had hoped to by now, but I will share five podcasts to add to your playlist – each in their own sort of category!
Podcasts to Add To Your Playlist: The First Degree
This was a natural pivot from The Lady Gang since Jac Vanek – one of the three LGers – is a host on this podcast as well! It’s true crime but with a twist – all of the podcast guests are only one degree of separation with a murderer. Think the bff of a killer’s girlfriend or a high school classmate. I have only listened to a couple so far, but it sounds like they go in depth on a specific case in each episode.
Podcasts to Add To Your Playlist: My Dad Wrote A Porno
This is one of those podcasts that’s hard to listen to in public. You will have tears streaming down your face from laughing so hard. The title says it all – a British guy’s dad writes a porn book and he and his two friends read it aloud and question things along the way.
Podcasts to Add To Your Playlist: The Dream
This is a more serious podcast giving an inside view into MLMs (multi-level marketing organizations like LuLaRoe or ThirtyOne). While the host is incredibly anti-MLMs, which means you have to take everything with a grain of salt, it’s still fascinating and, frankly, depressing.
Podcasts to Add To Your Playlist: Bad On Paper
This one was a rec from a book-loving friend about non-critically acclaimed novels that are just fun as hell to read. Not only have I been devouring episodes, I’ve also been reading a lot more – some ho hum, as the title would suggest, but others that have been really good! Every other episode is a book discussion so you know what to read before spoilers come around. It’s like book club but without the awkward small talk!
Podcasts to Add To Your Playlist: S Town
I’m cheating a little with this one because I’ve already listened to this way back when. But it’s one of my favorites and definitely worth adding to your list! It’s from This American Life and the producers of Serial about a man in Alabama trying to solve a local crime. But it’s not at all what you thing. If you aren’t feeling it, at least make it through the third episode before you give up – there’s a BIG twist!
Have you listened to any of those? Like? Dislike? Tell me in the comments! I’d also love to hear any recommendations you have so I can keep growing my list and share more again soon!
