Happy Monday! It’s an Enneagram 7’s dream come true – when the first of the week also falls on the first of the month. If you’re not familiar with the Enneagram, I highly recommend this book. I’m a 7 and we love fresh starts for new projects – likely one of the reasons why I love my monthly goal setting posts so much!
I mentioned in my catch up post last week that I’ve been struggling with depression over the past several months. Medication helps – and I’m not embarrassed to admit that – I think we should all talk about it more. But part of healing means focusing on yourself, which is why I’ve instituted the Summer of Self Care.
This doesn’t mean I’m going to go to the spa or only eat salads for the next couple of months. Instead, I’m going to do things that make me productive and happy, while working my way up full steam again.
July Goal Setting: Keeping Energy Up
I have three main goals to help keep my energy and momentum up during July and onward.
1. Get back to regular exercise! June was my most active month since JANUARY and my body is feeling it. I set a goal to run 31 miles in July – not too much, but enough to keep me going.
2. Read … a lot! In times of low energy, I’ve been defaulting to old TV – which isn’t bad per say, but I personally think watching mindless TV drags me farther into a funk. Instead, I’m challenging myself to read 4 personal or professional development books this month and at least 2 novels. Here’s what’s on my list:
- Eat That Frog – About avoiding procrastination for better productivity
- Tell Me More – Teaching women to have tough conversations – even if with themselves; recommended by The Lady Gang
- Quiet – A book about being an introvert; recommended by an introvert friend
- More Than Enough – A book about minimalism and how a family went one year without buying anything; saw the author speak at the Thrive Conference
- The Conspiracy of Us – Young Adult recommended by the Bad on Paper podcast
- The Alice Network – A historical novel about female spies recommended by a friend and also the Bad on Paper podcast
3. Wake up early every once in a while. I am absolutely NOT a morning person, but it’s sometimes so nice to wake up earlier than necessary to get life stuff done before work or just enjoy a laid-back morning. I’m making a goal for myself to get up earlier than necessary 2 days a week.
That’s it – they’re fairly simple this month, trying to give myself grace. And I’m sure there will be some face masks and maybe a massage thrown in there as well! I hope you’ll take part in the Summer of Self Care with me – what would be on your goal setting list?
