So, I knew this year I wanted to do a Mother’s Day Gift Guide on the blog. But when I thought more about it, it only made sense to go to the expert in what moms want … my mom! That’s right, Mama Gamble is back today to guest post a Mother’s Day Gift Guide – all the things she wants and your mom might too. Enjoy!
I could never think of what to get my mother for Mother’s Day. In fact, I can never think of anything to get anyone, so I just go with the idea that if I love it and I love them, maybe they’ll love it too. Pretty sure that’s not how it works, so relying on a Mother’s Day gift guide might be a better plan. Which leads me to wonder – was the idea Claire had of asking me to come up with a Mother’s Day gift guide her way of finding out what I really want? I do the research, she gets the gift ideas, and I get what I really want? Brilliant. Here goes.
One more side note from Claire: I consider myself a great gift giver and typically have trinkets saved in my closet that I’ve picked for friends and family throughout the year. In fact, her Mother’s Day gift has been tucked away fully wrapped since the beginning of March … But back to the guide …

1. Anything Mark & Graham
I am a total Mark & Graham freak. I love their stuff and the monogramming is free. There are so many things on their site that I love, but it would just end up being a Mark & Graham blog. How many trinket trays can one person have, but here’s one with a purpose. I always put my glasses on my nightstand as I’m going to bed, so how cute would it be to have a designated spot for them? They have other colors and are only 19 bucks – definitely not a budget breaker. (Hint, hint Claire, I’m digging the navy and gold!) They also have monogrammed leather tassel keychains that are under $50. Oh, and a monogrammed clear acrylic tray – just saying.
2. Anthropologie Dish Towels
Does anyone, anywhere have cuter dish towels than Anthro???? NO!!! Just play on their site and you have to find something so good you can’t resist. Two I saw that would be perfect for Mother’s Day. A pretty floral one that has “You’re my Favorite” embroidered on it, and this “Queen of the Pack.” There are just so many to choose from – I would take any one of them.
3. A Kimono
Kimonos are everywhere right now – as in EVERYWHERE, and you can find them in any color, print, or price range. What is not to love?! This is one I’d love to wear with summer jeans or at the beach.
4. Lilly Pulitzer Dance ‘Til Sunrise Earrings
In doing research for this, I got totally sucked into a Lilly website black hole. I love these really nice 2-in-1 earrings. At $48, they make it under a $50 budget.
5. West Elm’s Small Bowls
I am a sucker for any kind of dishes, but I am really in love with West Elm’s small bowls. I use them for everything. Dipping bowls for olive oil, holding cooking ingredients, serving bowls for nuts and olives, etc. They have these very nice marble and copper dipping bowls. But these colorful ones might just be my favorite.
6. Onion Goggles
So who even knew there was such a thing as onion goggles?! Reading Smitten Kitchen (where you can find an amazing recipe for French onion soup) I found that maybe I was missing something. If you have a mom who likes to cook, how cute are these from Amazon? No more tears – like I said, who knew?
7. BaubleBar Heart Earrings
No fluffy language needed – I simply love these raffia heart earrings from BaubleBar.
8. Lilly Pulitzer Luggage Tag
I love to travel! And I have a black suitcase which everyone seems to be a bit tired of, but let’s face it, black is practical – doesn’t show wear and if you’re fashion conscious, it pretty much goes with anything. That said, how do you easily distinguish your black bag from messieurs black bag? No guy is going to have a Lilly luggage tag.
9. Beach Bag
I used to love it when school let out for the summer. It meant no routines, lazy mornings, and fun time at the pool with Claire. Loved getting a new beach bag and new summer beach towels. I bought one from Rock Flower Paper a few years ago and still love taking it to the pool. Plus, it’s available on Amazon!
10. Summer Scarf
No Mother’s Day gift guide for me would be complete without a scarf in the mix – love them winter and summer. I bought one of the hair scarves from Anthro on sale last year. While I’m way past wearing one in my hair, it is almost the perfect size for a summer neck scarf.
11. Silk Pillow Cases
Silk pillows are all the rage right now. They seem to be a cure-all – good for your hair (who needs bedhead!), preventing wrinkles, dry skin, and someone, somewhere probably claims it’s good for weightloss. Ha! I think the ship has sailed on the wrinkles part, but I wouldn’t mind help with the bedhead. This one is cute, but Amazon has tons of them. I like this one too.
12. Mark & Graham Handkerchief
Why are handkerchiefs just for men? My mother had a lovely stack of hand embroidered handkerchiefs which I decided were doing no good in my bureau drawer. I’ve started to use them and just love not having to drag out a crumpled tissue, and instead pull out a lovely embroidered handkerchief. This one from Mark & Graham says ‘Best Man”, but could just as easily say “Best Mom.” Maybe your mom wouldn’t mind saving the trees and using nice silk or linen one.
13. Silk Eye Mask
While we are talking silk. I saw these in an Etsy shop and kind of fell for them. They would feel like a luxurious treat while taking an afternoon nap!
14. Mark & Graham Cuff
Back to Mark & Graham for these really cool monogrammed acrylic cuffs. Okay, I’ll stop with the M&G now …
15. Linen Napkins
The natural linen craze is everywhere, but if spending major bucks on a set of washed linens isn’t in your Mother’s Day budget these less-pricey linen napkins would make a happy replacement.
That just about wraps it up. It is a privilege to be a mother, so truly most of us mothers don’t require a thing but a verbal acknowledgement and some appreciation. I am so lucky to have two amazing kids, maybe I should be the one buying them something – no, wait, there are too many things on this list that I would love! I’d take any one of them (just not wearing the hair scarf in my hair though …)
