Holy moly, friends, it’s been a while! I’m happy to be back post-holiday craziness and kicking off 2019 with a bang (and a flute of champagne).
Last year, before I officially launched the blog, I shared a post that covered my highs and lows of 2017. It was pretty therapeutic to write (mainly because I was still coping with my dad’s passing) and I think it’s a good exercise to start the new year with a fresh slate.
If 2018 was a highlight reel, here’s what it would look like.
Life Changing Surgery
Probably the biggest highlight of 2018 was getting a breast reduction. This is something that’s been on my mind for many years and it was like turning a new chapter to actually have it done. That said, it wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies and I battled some post-op depression and a mini identity crisis.
All in all, I’m much happier now, but what I thought would be the happiest time of my life was a bit bitter sweet.
Finding My Joy
2018 was a year of self-care for me and I worked a lot on myself, both in therapy and out. One thing I was able to pin point is that I’m truly happiest when I’m outdoors and hiking. So, I made time for that. Even when it was inconvenient or came with an expense. I got to try a few local hikes – Devil’s Lake, Indiana Dunes, and Starved Rock; and also made trips to Colorado and the Appalachian Trail. I know this is a trend that will continue into 2019 and beyond.
Wedding Love
One of the best parts of 2018 was getting to be in my friend’s wedding and all the parties, planning, and fun that entailed. My sweet friend let me handle all the invitations – which has long been a dream of mine. Side note: another dream is to design a wine bottle label, so if you run a winery, hit me up. 😉
The wedding also consisted of a trip to Atlanta for the bridal shower, a bachelorette party cruise with 8 of my closest girlfriends, and the wedding itself, which was absolutely stunning. Congrats, Alexa and Zach!
Launching the Blog
I’ve saved this one for last, but getting to share my life here has truly been a blessing I never expected. It also keeps me VERY busy. I had no idea how much time and effort it would take to keep Bumble and Bustle running smoothly, but I couldn’t imagine life without it. Do I feel still feel ridiculously awkward taking “fashion” photos? Hell yes. But having this creative outlet has been a great value-add to my life.
There were so many other amazing moments in 2018 that didn’t get their own bucket. Here are a few to look back on:
- I saw the Northern Lights in Alaska (in JANUARY, brrr)
- I went to my first Florida basketball game in the O’Dome (Is it still called that?)
- Drank entirely too many “pretty” cocktails trying to find the best of the best
- Visited FIVE new states – Alaska, Maryland, Delaware, Rhode Island, and Wyoming
- Celebrated 31 in Boston getting to see the Jagged Little Pill musical (yes, that’s a thing)
- Hosted my first Bumble and Bustle in-person event – a champagne tasting at J9 Wine Bar
- Embraced and enjoyed my first Korean Spa experience
- VOTED – because bring on 2020
- Cheered on the Gators from Chicago as they played in the Peach Bowl
- And much, much more
What are your favorite memories from 2018? And what are you looking forward to?
