Greetings from Weaverville, North Carolina where I’m having a girls’ weekend with my mom and our close family friend – who’s pretty much like family too! There’s nothing better than disconnecting from work and getting out in the wilderness. But, before we do that, let me tell you a bit about our rental house.
I’m talking turquoise and mustard yellow walls (next to each other), more than one cat clock, curtains printed with wine bottles and labels, PATRIOTIC NUTCRACKERS, and a toilet bowl that lights up when you enter the room so you know where to find it. I’m doing a full photo / video tour in my Instagram stories today, so make sure you check it out!
Now, on to the things I love …
In The Moment: Things I Love on October 4, 2018
1. Flamingo Skeleton | 2. Candy Corn | 3. Dip Manicures | 4. Milk Bar | 5. Joe and the Juice
Flamingo Skeleton
My love of flamingos meets my love of skulls in this modern Halloween decoration. I’m considering getting these lawn ornaments and figuring out how to repurpose them sans yard. I never really decorate at the holidays – mostly because I don’t have storage space for in the off seasons – but these are just too cute to pass up!
Candy Corn
If you’ve been following on Instagram, you’ll know my seasonal love of candy corn is back in a serious way. Bag at home? Demolished. Bag in my D.C. hotel room? Ate more than half of it in 3 days. My workouts are doing nothing but keeping up with the corn-syrup calories I’m consuming, and frankly, I don’t care.
Dip Manicures
I got my first dip manicure this weekend in D.C. I figured with all the traveling I’m doing this month, the last thing I need to worry about is painting my nails. So far, I love the look of my nails and how the polish reinforces them. It appears sort-of like acrylics but a solid color and they’re not supposed to be as tough on your natural nails. I’ll report back when I remove the polish because I am concerned that may sway my love. Fingers crossed though – if all goes well, I’m eyeing this at-home kit!
Milk Bar
I talked a bit about this in my D.C. travel guide, but Milk Bar lived up to every expectation I had of it. Their birthday cake is nothing short of amazing – the batter, the icing, the crunchy cake crumbs throughout. Plus, who doesn’t love funfetti?? Now, if only it didn’t cost $50 for a 6-inch cake – and worse yet, an extra $40 to ship to IL. Oof.
Joe and the Juice
To balance out all that corn syrup and cake, I’ve discovered my love of Joe and the Juice. It’s a Danish chain my coworker introduced me to that’s making its way to the states. There are a few in Chicago now and their flatbread sandwiches are my healthy-ish dinner jam! I like the turkey – it has pesto, mozz, and tomato and is only 420-ish calories.
Alright, and now to hike for the rest of the weekend! What are the things you love this week?
