Continuing with the travel theme, this week’s “Things I Love” has a special twist. I realized when I was in Colorado, there are a few travel essentials I love to pack on every trip. They stand the test of location, weather, and duration of trip. We’ll call it a follow-up to my carry on essentials post …
In The Moment: Travel Essentials I Love on August 23, 2018
1. Extension Cord | 2. Walking Shoes | 3. Good Skin Care Products | 4. Neutral Sweater | 5. Mini Steamer
Multi-Outlet Extension Cord
I mean, if this isn’t extra, I’m not sure what it. This “essential” comes from my genius mother who carries a 6-port extension cord on every trip. No more fighting over outlets in a hotel room or leaving your phone to charge on the other side of the room. I haven’t adopted this one myself yet, so maybe this is cheating, but I plan to!
Fashionable Walking Shoes
I was thinking about this when I was helping my mom get her Paris travel guide posted. Any vacation where you may be walking a lot during the day (which is pretty much all of them that I go on) requires great shoes you can walk in all day but rock with jeans at a trendy restaurant. I like a good slip on tennie for this and, again, in a color that will match anything. The pair I have are no longer available but are similar to these.
Great Skin Care Products
A couple years ago I started traveling so often that it was hard to keep consistent with a skin care routine if I was using a hotel bar soap as my only product. I invested in mini bottles for all the products I use at home and it’s made all the difference. And it doesn’t really take up any more room since it all fits in my same toiletries bag. I have a mini Keihl’s facial oil for makeup removal; retinol cream, eye cream, and lash serum from Organys; and my favorite moisturizer from Clinique.
Neutral Sweater
Even if you’re going to Florida in August, it still gets chilly in any air-conditioned restaurant. So, assuming I’m not going to wear it for very long (i.e. it won’t get dirty) I pack only one sweater that will go with every outfit to save space. I like something that’s blush, but white would also work. Just make sure it matches every outfit – or JDGAF about matching.
Mini Steamer
We’ve all tried to use a hotel iron. Clothes inevitably wind up with some sort of sticky gunk on them or more wrinkled than before. A mini steamer is so inexpensive and doesn’t take up much room. Plus it does a great job making your clothes nice and fresh to wear. So many of my friends prescribe to this essential, that I almost never even have to pack my own on group trips because I know someone else will have one. Win!
On another note, I got the burgundy mascara I talked about in last week’s Things I Love! I’m not going to try it tomorrow since I’m headed into the office and it might be a bit much, but I promise to share an update when I have an opinion. Bonus: it was under $6 on Amazon!
