Remember my annual bucket list? Well, the year is more than half gone, so I figured it was time to do a mid-year bucket list update to share my progress and what I have going on for the next few months.
Mid-Year Bucket List Update:
- Visit a new state
- See the Northern Lights
- Take a letterpress class
- Do a mini kitchen makeover
- Do a mini bathroom makeover
- Run a 5K in 31 minutes (or less!)
- Try a new Chicago restaurant every month – Jan, Feb, Mar, April, May, June, July
- Learn how to use my DSLR
- Rollover my 401k
- Go on a local hike (within driving distance of Chicago)
- Go to a concert
- Make a charitable donation
- Go to a Gator game
- Try a new workout or gym
- Read a classic novel
- Try matcha
- Get certified in Google Analytics
Since we last caught up, I did mini makeovers on my kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom makeover was so mini, I didn’t even share it on the blog, but it’s so much more functional with a new medicine cabinet and some storage.
I also went on a local “hike” – the quotation marks being important for Chicago. My cousin and I went and tried out Deer Grove park up by O’Hare. It was more like a walk on a trail, but it was really nice to get out in the fresh air. Later this fall, I’d like to check out Matthiessen State Park and Starved Rock.
Some restaurants I’ve tried since the last update: Green Street Smoked Meats, Bar Biscay, Formento’s, Drawl, Gemini Bistro, Two Lights, and more!
Not to go overboard or anything, I also crossed not one, but two more states off my list (Maryland and Rhode Island), and will be tackling another later this week. After I hit Wyoming on Thursday, I’ll only have 9 left!
What’s Next?
While I’m in Colorado with some time on my hands, I’d really love to play around more with my DSLR and learn some of the more advanced settings. I also plan to read a lot – so I’ll have to find a good classic novel to add to the list.
Now that I’m able to run again, I’ll start training for the 5K in earnest. And who wants to go to a concert with me??
The bucket list item that’s fairly embarrassing is that I STILL haven’t rolled over my 401(k). I really need to just get this done.
Okay – what do you think? Any suggestions or things I should add – maybe for 2019??

Thinking of classics. I loved listening to Three Men in a Boat Jerome K. Jerome on Audible which I think made it even funnier than if I had read it. For reading? The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald? 1984 by George Orwell? Cult novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger? Of course there is the problem of defining “classic.”

1984 is a great option or Catcher! I’ve ready TGG, oddly enough.
