In case you missed it, each year, I write a new bucket list of sorts. Not things I want to do before I die, rather things I want to prioritize and do in the coming year. Every few months, I check in with the bucket list – I’ll add some things and remove others that are no longer an interest – or sometimes practical.
Here’s are some of the awesome things I’ve done so far this year:
- Visit a new state
- See the Northern Lights
- Take a letterpress class
- Do a mini kitchen makeover
- Do a mini bathroom makeover
- Run a 5K in 31 minutes (or less!)
- Try a new Chicago restaurant every month – Jan, Feb, Mar
- Learn how to use my DSLR
- Rollover my 401k
- Go on a local hike (within driving distance of Chicago)
- Go to a concert
- Make a charitable donation
- Go to a Gator game
- Try a new workout or gym
- Read a classic novel
- Try matcha
Some Bucket List Update Highlights …
I was able to fit two bucket-list items into one trip when, in January, I went to Alaska and saw the northern lights.
It was the trip of a lifetime, and I discovered a bucket-list item that wasn’t on my radar really should be. Dog sledding! It was also a much more manageable trip in terms of budget and time involvement than I had expected. The season for the aurora is coming to an end, but if you’re interested in a similar trip, make sure to bookmark this trip recap!
It took a few tries to get right, but I’m now a big fan of matcha. I tried it iced – nope. Tried it hot – nope. Then someone recommended I try Sawada Coffee in the West Loop … They make a hot matcha latte that’s to die for. They just opened Sawada Matcha near my office, so I’ll be giving that a go soon too.
I also had a blast going to my first Gator basketball game at the O’Dome. I have been to games in Alabama and Georgia but never went to one as a student. Luckily, I had friends with me to teach me the right cheers!
Changes To The Bucket List …
My budget has changed a bit with surgery in a few months, so I may or may not get to my bathroom or kitchen makeovers. We’ll leave those on, but I’m not going to put pressure on them. I also have had a really hard time finding a local letterpress class. I’ve checked Dabble and Groupon and have even called around to a few places. If anyone knows of one, let me know.
One thing I developed a new interest in is getting certified in Google Analytics. For the blog, it will help being able to better understand the stats I have access to. And it’s relevant to my day job as well. I may slate this for post-surgery when I’m stuck in bed for weeks.
Next Up On My Schedule …
As spring-time approaches, I can’t wait to rent a car and check out a local hike. I’m also going to two more new states next month – Maryland and Delaware, so I’m hoping to really learn my DSLR before I go.
Anything else I should add to my list?
