Happy Wednesday, y’all. Wait, a blog post, on Wednesday, you ask?? I mean, it’s kind of comical that September goal setting is now being posted on the 5th, but between a bachelorette party cruise and some derailed travel plans, I’m just now finding time to sit down and write.
But truthfully, I’ve been thinking about my September goals for a while now. I told you after surgery I struggled with depression and not really feeling like myself. One of the things I’ve noticed is when I’m organized and productive, life tends to be good and I’m happier. When life is in chaos, things start to spiral in all areas of my life, and this is when I get stressed and down.
Right before and after surgery, I was very lenient with myself – thinking I could use a break. But what I found is that the lack of structure in my life has left me feeling out of sorts. Sometimes, the things that seem like mundane chores are really the things that lead to a happier life.
So, this month, I’m focusing my September goal setting on self-care. And this will come in many different forms. Some things I’ll be doing for pure joy. Others, will be a tedious task that in the end, will make my life easier on a day-to-day basis.
September Goal Setting:
- Go on a fall hike – I’ve identified that one of the things that makes me happiest is a good hike. And why on earth don’t I do it more often? I went on a few in August – one local one with my cousin and a couple in Colorado and Wyoming with my mom. One weekend day this month, I’m going to rent a car and head north until I find a reason to lace up my hiking boots.
- Run 3 times a week – I’ve been so lax about exercise since the surgery. Unfortunately, I realized that the lack of exercise has made me less productive and gain weight. Ick! So, I’m hopping back on the treadmill and will look forward to some nice lakeside runs when the weather cools down a bit. My 2018 Bucket List includes running a 30-minute 5K, so this will be a good step to help me reach that goal.
- Get my financials in order – Another thing that got a bit out of control post-op was my finances. I’ll focus on some small-scale things like spending less on eating out and watching my monthly budget, and some big-scale things like paying off my surgery and FINALLY transferring my 401(k).
- Clean my bedroom closet – This is honestly my biggest stressor in life right now. Living in the city, I don’t have a ton of space, and my closet has become this massive catch all for things without a home. After surgery I started hoarding new clothes, but now I’ve found half the closet doesn’t fit, and a third of the rest needs to be returned to stores. Once I get that cleared out, I’ll have plenty of room for the clothes I love and that do fit! Plus, things won’t fly out at me every time I open the doors.
Tackling The To Do List
Obviously, running 3 times per week will happen throughout the month, but the other tasks will take a bit of dedicated time. But, it works out perfectly because I have three weekends this month that I’m in town and only one full weekend day accounted for. This means, I’ll have time to meet my goals, without missing out on fun!
And, hopefully, by October, I can have some real progress to work from.
Do you have any goals set for September? I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
