Last week I talked about my planned mini kitchen makeover. The short story – I set aside a meager budget to make some very small updates to the kitchen in my rented apartment. No big renovations or anything, just some functional changes since the space is so tiny.
The Mini Kitchen Makeover Changes
One big goal was to clear some cabinet space and much of my above-stove cabinet was taken up by spices. I got matching spice jars, chalkboard labels, and hung some simple spice racks on the wall.
Not only do I love the way the matching jars look, but it was an inexpensive project and I was able to free up enough space to get the above-fridge monstrosity cleared off.
Another project was to do something with the canvas I hung up to hide the giant fuse box on the main wall. Using only materials I had at home – the canvas, craft paint, and twine, I made a nice spot to showcase cards and photos I get from friends.
I did purchase some decorated clothespins to dress it up some. Ultimately, I wish the color wasn’t quite so bright turquoise, but it does match my dishes and some kitchen wares. If it weren’t just a short-term fix, I’d repaint it lighter, but it works for now.
Some Final Tweaks
Finally, the microwave had become a catchall for essential oils, miscellaneous teas, and some very sentimental gifts. I got a hanging square frame to showcase this tea cup and saucer and signed travel mug.
I also got the cutest ceramic fruit baskets to organize oils and teas. Everything else has successfully made it into a cabinet or drawer – WIN!
So, I know it wasn’t a huge change, but this mini kitchen makeover made the small space much more livable. And I brought it all in under budget. I hope this has you thinking … if you could make one change to your kitchen, what would it be?
