If you ever see me walking up Michigan after work one night, you’ll know it’s me because I’ll have headphones in and tears streaming down my face. I’ll look like a complete moron because I’ll be audibly laughing to my guilty pleasure podcast: The Lady Gang.
When I moved to Chicago, I asked for podcast suggestions – I was making a thirty-minute commute twice a day on some days and working from home on others. I knew it would be nice to have something entertaining on as background noise.
My friend suggested The Lady Gang, and I never looked back. It’s three power women in Hollywood – Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jac Vanek talking about the trials and tribulations of semi-celebrity life. Another honorable mention goes to the podcast S. Town, but it didn’t last long enough to become a staple.
Who Are The Lady Gang?
Keltie is a commentator on E! News, but has painstakingly chronicled her climb to C-list celeb status on the podcast. She’s my favorite because she, like me, is type A and more than a little crazy. You might remember Becca as Kitty from Glee back in the day. And Jac runs her own clothing line after gaining notoriety in the My Space days as a scene girl.
They start the podcast each week with a segment called Good Week / Bad Week. It’s exactly what it sounds like – they each share a highlight and low point of their weeks. Sometimes they’re serious, but more often they’re hilarious tales of lost veneers, dating disasters, and untimely bowel movements.
After that, they move into a celebrity guest. I use the term celebrity loosely – usually it’s another girl boss but someone I have to look up. It’s not necessarily the subject matter that makes this podcast so good, more the relatability and comedic value Keltie, Becca, and Jac add.
Finally, each show ends with “Ask The Lady Gang” – where they read a few questions from listeners and provide highly debatable life advice.
